BUNDABERG SELECTED TO DEVELOP NEW THEATRE PRODUCTIONS
Bundaberg will become a Queensland theatre hotspot with funding of $300,000 over three years to create stage and tour locally-produced work.
Under the Regional Stages initiative, jointly funded by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Australia Council for the Arts, Bundaberg's Moncrieff Theatre will engage with local arts groups to develop new work. The Moncrieff Theatre proposes innovative community engagement programs with a focus on Indigenous oral history, opera and theatre for young people and strategic audience development initiatives.
The Moncrieff joins the Gold Coast Arts Centre and Toowoomba's Empire Theatre as the three locations selected to participate following a competitive process.
Regional Stages offers unprecedented collaborations between local government and industry, community members and professional and emerging arts practitioners. There is potential for work developed under the initiative to become product for Queensland-wide tours.
